If you are a last-minute planner like me, you haven't thought about making plans for Memorial Day (it's this weekend, FYI) let alone book anything. Never fear, here are a few options to make sure one of the biggest long weekends of 2014 will be a good one!

Omni Montelucia Resort & Spa in PV is offering an incredible rate of $191/nt for a family of 4 for a standard room. I have to say, I LOVE this hotel. The Moroccan influence throughout is gorgeous. Since it was only built within the last 5 or so years, it's not old like some of the other well-known and notable places in town. If you are a spa person, this is your spot. It's one of my favorite spas in town with a rooftop pool that has a killer view of Camelback Mountain.

Expedia, Orbitz and most of the other hotel booking engines give it 5-stars, you know it's a safe bet and it's about 2/3 of the price of Camelback Inn across the street. It's actually a great place for pictures too, so take your camera and go check it out!

HyattHyatt Regency Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale is not far behind the Montelucia with a rate of $229/nt for a family of 4 in their Resort King or 2 Double Beds, but it will probably make you a hero with your kids who will love the 3-story water slide and 10-interconnected pools and a sand beach which is still a great option for little ones.

If you cough up another $10/nt, their Splash into Summer sale gets you free dinner for a child in SWB (12 and under) with each paying adult and free golf for a child (15 and under) with each paying adult. Camp Hyatt 50% off and free parking, along with family activities poolside each day! A second room for the kids 18 and under is available up to 50% off. Of course you must "See terms & conditions" for all the details.

FairmontAnd if you're willing to spend $229/nt., consider the Fairmont Princess Resort for the same price. They have an awesome Sonoran Splash resort pool with 2 200ft water slides and Memorial Day weekend starts their after-dark, Techno waterslide featuring fog, disco lights and music, which usually happens on Friday & Saturday nights. My kids have had a blast here on holiday weekends and the resort does a great job of entertaining their littlest guests!

For mom and dad they do also have the phenomenal Willow Stream Spa that you really want to go see for yourself.

Activities & Events

Head over to AZCentral and check out their 21 Events to Celebrate Memorial Day: http://www.azcentral.com/story/entertainment/events/2014/05/20/events-celebrate-memorial-day/9195875/

If water parks are your thing, season passes are available for sale at Wet n Wild in Phoenix from $54.99 if you buy 4 or more! For the season, this includes unlimited park admission, parking, a 20% discount on food and drinks (which you aren't allowed to bring in.... :() & a discount on tickets for your friends. If you spring for the gold pass, you get all of that AND special days to bring a friend for free, $20 off cabana rentals, which you will want when it gets crowded and there isn't a chair to be found, 5 free tube rentals and new for this year 5 free express bands and a free souvenir bottle with $0.99 refills (again, you will definitely want this!). Starting Wednesday, 5/22/14, the park is open daily and maybe might be a great option for those random weeks between when school ends and summer camp starts and when camp finishes and school starts again!

Also, for Lifetime Fitness members, don't forget about the pretty cool water slides at the Scottsdale club. It may not be WetNWild, but it is free with your membership!! :)

This Saturday is International Museum Day. Yes, who knew this existed... I know I didn't. AZCentral also has the details of which museums are participating and offering deals. http://www.azcentral.com/story/entertainment/events/2014/05/11/museum-day-deals-arizona/8974985/

My mother, visiting from Florida, just informed me that it's Arizona Restaurant Week- from 5/17-26 (all the way through the end of the long weekend)! This is one of my favorite weeks of the year where you can go out and try all the participating restaurants that you wanted to, but weren't willing to risk date night for a bad experience. Check out the full list of participants here: http://www.arizonarestaurantweek.com/restaurants/

With that, enjoy your long weekend, be safe and thank our veterans and active military members for your freedom to even be able to do anything on this list!!!
